The South Dakota Knowledge Test
You will be required to pass a test covering the rules of the road and safe driving practices. Those wishing to obtain a motorcycle or commercial operators license should also obtain those operator manuals from any South Dakota Driver Licensing Office. The manuals are also available on the DPS website.
You must correctly answer 20 out of 25 questions.
If you fail any of the tests, you may not re-test before the next working day. You may wait longer if you want more time to study the manual or to practice driving. You are allowed 3 opportunities to test for each fee paid within a 6-month period. After 3 failures in the 6-month period, a new fee would need to be paid.

South Dakota is not yet covered in our tests. We hope to add complete tests later this year.
Meanwhile, each test is based on general safe driving practices, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) issued by the Federal Highway Administration and State laws. A test consists of 24 questions, and you must correctly answer 20 questions to pass.
Remember, you can take your preparation test over and over again. You will get a new set of randomly selected questions each time.
