I get comments like the following every now and then:
"I clicked on the right button letter c . But you are telling me I am wrong. I don't understand."
"my answer was D...but your reply said I was not correct & you didn't show it in red".
The explanation?
When you answered the question, you didn't choose an answer. Meaning, clicking the "radio button" didn't work.
In a real test you can save or skip a question. So I thought it was a good idea to allow you to do the same in our test without too many buttons or warning messages.
But there will be a better explanation in the future.

How Many Alternatives?

June M asks: "Does the DMV ever accept "ALL OF THE ABOVE" as an answer? I didn't think so. I thought you had 3 choices and only 1 was acceptable."
Even if tests differ between the states, it is absolutely true that questions with only three alternatives are most common.
We are slowly adopting that practise as well.
But remember, even if we try to have as many real questions as possible, this is still just a site where you can practise your knowledge for free. Nothing else.
The point of having "all of the above" and "none of the above" as alternatives, is that people sometimes answer just a little bit too fast. We want you to get into the habit of reading the whole question and all of the alternatives, before answering.
That way you increase your chances of passing the real thing.

Flashing Red Lights

A flashing red signal light means "STOP". After stopping, you may proceed when it is safe. And you must always observe the right-of-way rules.
Unfortunately, a copy and paste error between databases made one of the questions for New York and Illinois on licenseroute.com showing an incorrect alternative as the answer.
Many of you have noticed this error. Probably because this is one of the most important questions and one you should really know the answer to.
So how did I miss that? Well, what can I say... My face is just as red as the stop light. I deeply apologize for this mistake.
The error is corrected. But, as always, if you notice anything that seems to be incorrect, let us know. We do this for free with your help!

Correction in the Nevada Test

Every now and then we get things mixed up in the database, and we appreciate all your corrections!
Like this one on the Nevada DMV Test:
The restriction code letter D on a driver license indicates the following restriction....
Our explanation offered the correct answer, but the alternatives got mixed up. It is now fixed!
The code letter D stands for Daylight driving only.

If you are studying for your first written test: this is your chance to find out if you will pass. Take it!
If you already have a drivers license: when's the last time you took a written drivers test? When you were 16? How do you think you'd score if you took it again today?
When GMAC Insurance do their annual national drivers test, it becomes clear that many Americans need a refresher course. Nearly 41 million licensed drivers would fail if retested today. It is a scary number. And the worst thing is that the number is increasing. The average driver is not getting better.
Do you think you're smarter than the average driver? Take the test yourself, and see if you pass or if you could use a little brushing up. Then compare your scores and challenge a friend to beat your score!

- Multi-tasking While Driving
- Driving Tip: When You Turn the Car On, Turn the Gadgets Off. No matter how busy your day is, when you’re on the road, focus only on driving. Catch up on other activities later and avoid unnecessary accidents.
- Following Too Closely
- Driving Tip: One Thousand One, One Thousand Two. Leave a two-second cushion between you and the vehicle ahead – it could save your bumper and your life. Make sure to double or triple that time when the weather is bad or the pavement is slick..
- Failure to Yield on a Left-Hand Turn
- Driving Tip: Check the Flow Before You Go. Look at the street you are turning into to make sure that no vehicles or pedestrians are in your path..
- Incorrect Merging
- Driving Tip: Yellow is for Yield. Accidents often occur when you are stuck behind a driver who interprets yield as stop. Don’t be the guilty party. Use the ramp as a means for merging into traffic, not causing it..
- Backing Up
- Driving Tip: Look Over Your Shoulder. Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear. Your mirrors have a margin of error; don’t rely on them alone. Look over your shoulder before backing up..
